The US Consumer Product Safety Commission in conjunction with the Window Covering Safety Council has issued several recalls today for roman and roll-up blinds due to risk of strangulation hazard. Children can get their heads caught in the cords used to pull up the shades and there have been several incidents recorded. The CPSC has been investigating reports on these types of window coverings for the last 15 years, working with manufacturers to keep window coverings safe.
The Window Covering Safety Council is offering a free repair kit for these types of window coverings and consumers are encouraged to remove the coverings until an appropriate fix can be applied or they replace the covering with a cord free option. Consumers can contact the WCSC at
www.windowcoverings.org or by calling (800) 506-4636 anytime to receive the free repair kit.
